Summer Hair Care Tips

By Bee Choo Origin

Summer is fast approaching, and many of us are planning for a summer vacation to the beaches this June holiday. Bali, Phuket, Langkawi, whichever your pick. Even for those that are not travelling this summer, we are already experiencing summer in Singapore all year round, and we’re expecting an even warmer weather in the upcoming months. Whether you are planning for a trip overseas to the beach or a dip in the pool in our homeland, we’ve got you covered.

Summer does not have to be the season of bad hair days. With some extra care, your hair can also look as good any day. Below are some tips on how to tame your tresses this summer.

1. Trim your hair

Trim your hair to remove the split ends. As the hair continues to grow, the split end continues to split up the hair shaft, so you got to snip them off quickly before it splits up through the entire strand.

2. Protect from the sun

Apply sunscreen on your hair – Just as we put on sunscreen to protect our face and body from the UV rays, we should also put on sunscreen on our hair to protect it from the harmful UVA and UVB rays. Look out for sprays, gels or leave-in conditioner with SPF properties. Not only can the UV rays damage your hair, it can also cause oxidization, making your freshly coloured hair to fade even faster.

Cover up – Covering up with a cap, scarf, bandana, hat or any accessories of such does the deed as well. It not only helps shield your tresses from the sun, preventing it from getting fried, it can also help retain moisture in your scalp and further protecting your scalp and ear from direct sunlight.

3. Reduce Chlorine/Saltwater Damage

To reduce chlorine or saltwater damage, it is important to prep your hair before taking the dip. Dry hair acts like a sponge and absorbs much more than wet hair. Therefore, it is important to rinse your hair with fresh water before or swim with a hair cap so that it will absorb much lesser salt water or pool chemicals. After a swim, make sure to apply a deep conditioning hair mask to limit further chlorine and saltwater damage.

4. Condition your hair

Prolonged exposure under the sun can damage your hair, making it dry and fried. Washing more often to get rid of the sweat and grime can leave it dry and dull as well. Switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner this summer to keep your hair healthy and smooth. Check out Bee Choo Origin’s Rehydrate Amino Shampoo and Purity Repair Hair Conditioner, a hydrating cleanser and conditioner which helps replenish moisture to your hair, increase elasticity which helps to hold moisture in while adding shine and smoothness to it.

Smooth Silky Conditioner

Conditioning your hair and keeping it moisturized will help also help tame frizz which brings us to the next point.

5. Fight Frizz

Hot and humid weather makes your hair frizzy. With increased humidity in the air during summer, it can make straight hair become wavy and curly hair frizzy and even curlier. To fight frizz, regular conditioning followed by a suitable amount of Bee Choo Origin’s Damaged Hair Rebuilder goes a long way. Just remember not to overdo it or you may end up weighing your hair down.

Just an additional tip, use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush to comb through your wet hair, this can help to minimize frizz.

6. Deep Cleansing with Scalp Treatment

Sweat, grime, greasy roots, the most common problem for everyone in Singapore, and even more so in the upcoming warmer months. As the sun shines down from on top of us, the first area to start sweating would be our scalp, leading to the above mentioned problems. Visit the salon once a month for some deep cleansing scalp treatment to maintain your healthy scalp.

Bee Choo Origin’s 90 minutes Herbal Treatment not only helps in maintaining a healthy scalp, it is also beneficial for individuals facing scalp issues such as hair loss, oily itchy scalp, dandruff or white/grey hair and more.
